3rd Annual Veterans Career Fair
The Vision of VCF is to empower service members and veterans in their pursuit to fulfill their dreams of working for an organization that allows them to achieve their professional goals.
The Mission of VCF is to build cooperative relationships with public and private employers that are committed to providing employment opportunities for service members and veterans in career and employment transition.
Last year the Veterans Career Fair raised over $8,500 and donated it to local charities that help veterans. Veterans Community Project (VCP), Friends In Service of Heroes (FISH) and Gold Star Families Memorial Monument all received donations last year.

Our University has an extraordinary purpose: We serve those who serve, and those who want to make a difference. We do so by establishing a level playing field in education, specifically for those who are typically the most underserved: first-generation college students, active duty military members, veterans, budding entrepreneurs—all those who need a second chance, and all those who never had a first chance. We help them build successful lives through our unique curriculum and personal mentoring approach. Armed with these successes, our graduates will have the most impact in strengthening our nation, and in turn, our world.
Maciel Wealth Management
Company: After college his hobby of investing turned into a passion and later into a career. He set Maciel Wealth Management up as a fiduciary and fee-only. This summer the firm completed the verification process to become a veteran-owned small business (VOSB). Matt focuses on providing military clients with high-level sophisticated financial tools, strategies and investment products that provide better insights into their financial plan. Clients are armed with new solutions that focus on increasing and protecting their personal wealth. Matt relates to the unique financial constraints on military families and prepares them for uncertainties like interest rate fluctuations, inflation, taxes, possible social security cuts, pitfalls in the economy and the up and down stock market.
Military Service: Shipped off to the Marine Corps Reserve just a few weeks after graduating high school and served from 1994-2000. After completing boot camp (Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego), infantry training (Camp Pendleton, CA) and MOS training (Camp Lejeune, NC) he enrolled in college and completed his degree nearly debt free due to the GI Bill. He served at the US Marine Corps Reserve Center in Wichita, KS.
Uniformed Services Benefit Association (USBA)
Life Insurance, TRICARE and CHAMPVA Supplements, and other coverages
Company: USBA is a nonprofit organization providing a variety of low-cost group life insurance plans and other financial services to the active duty and retired military market, as well as honorably discharged veterans, National Guard, Reserves and federal agency employees and their families. The Association has over 110,000 members located around the world. USBA partners with New York Life Insurance Company who underwrites the USBA group life, accidental death and dismemberment, and hospital indemnity insurance plans. New York Life has received the highest ratings for financial strength currently awarded to any life insurer by all four major rating agencies
Military Service: Matt Anderson graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1988 and was commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer. He served on Active Duty for 27 years, including five combat tours in Iraq, and was honorably discharged in July 2015. Matt currently works as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Uniformed Services Benefit Association. He and his family have lived in Shawnee since 2011.
The Fort Leavenworth Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program
The Fort Leavenworth Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP) delivers a world-class transition program for America’s Military that ensures all eligible transitioners have the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to be competitive and successful in the global workforce. We do so by demonstrating caring dedication to Military Members, Retirees, and their Families which engenders a positive feeling toward the Army making them ambassadors who enhance the Military’s ability to recruit and retain.SFL-TAP trains, guides, and mentors Soldiers from all services who are embarking on their journey towards civilian life. Services provided include transition counseling and guidance, education guidance, budgeting assistance, employment readiness, and networking opportunities. Our goal is for each and every Soldier, Airman, Sailor, Marine, and Coast Guardsman to be ready and excited about their transition into a new and meaningful phase of life.
Goodman Gravley Insurance Source
Company: Since leaving active duty in 1992 Andy Darling has specialized in selling insurance; joining Goodman Gravley Insurance in 2004. GGI is a privately owned insurance agency dating back to 1945 and specializes in property casualty insurance for businesses and families. GGI is licensed in 48 states and believes in serving the needs of our clients.
Military Service: Andrew retired in 1999 from the military with 23 years of service in the National Guard, Active Duty, and Reserve. Joined the NG after high school, graduated from SD Military Academy, earned Master Recruiter on active duty, then served as a Fire Direction Chief in Artillery units until retiring. Was awarded the Army Meritorious Service Medal, four Army Commendation Medals, was inducted in the Honorable Order of St Barbara and received the Chief’s 50 national award for recruiting.
Kansas City Veteran Coalition
The Kansas City Veteran Coalition serves as a centralized hub for area corporations looking to hire and help Veterans. Our mission is to enhance the Veteran hiring process by bringing corporations together, sharing best practices and resources, as well as provide mentoring and networking opportunities for our Veterans.
The Starfish Project began in 2014 running a truck and trailer assisting in getting donations to those that could use them. Today, they have a Community Center in Olathe, called The Beach. The Starfish Project currently house a branch of Johnson County Developmental Supports, an arts program, intern program, homeless program and offer community service hours for the presidential awards program.
Overland Park Convention Center
The Overland Park Convention Center was recently selected as a top 20 convention center in North America by EXHBITOR Magazine and a Best Convention Center in North America by Business View Magazine.
A national and local award-winning venue, the Overland Park Convention Center hosts approximately 350 events each year including corporate meetings, banquets and galas, consumer and trade shows, conventions and much more. The convention center is an all-encompassing event resource for clients and partners—our team creates experiences through personalized customer service and innovative ideas in all areas of our facility.
